Ladies and gentlemen, introducing Broadview University-Orem’s brand new Career Services Director Brent Clark! Brent has been with Broadview University as one of our most prized instructors (Instructor of the Year 2013), and we are honored for him to expand his role in the Career Services department working with students in every program from accounting to veterinary technology. I had the opportunity to ask Brent a couple questions, so we could all get to know him a little better.

What is your Educational Background?
I have a BS in Behavioral Science, Emphasis in Sociology from Utah Valley State College. I also have a MCMHC (Masters of Counseling, Mental Health Counseling) from the University of Phoenix.
Tell me a little about your experience.
I have been an adjunct professor at Utah Valley University. I have also been an adjunct to full-time faculty Broadview University. I was in the United States Army for 16 years, Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic for four years, and Chaplain Assistant for 12 years. I was an instructor for PREP (Prevention and Relationship Enhancement Program), and the General Manager at Midvale and the manager at Suncoast. I’ve been deployed twice—once in 2003 to Colorado Springs and the last to Iraq in 2009.
Any advice you want to impart to the Broadview students?
Schooling is an amazing advantage when it comes to finding work and to life. What you learn in school and as you go shape not just what you will do as a career but who you will become as a person.
Any advice for students entering the career field?
Find something you love. If you can get up every morning knowing that you are going to a job you enjoy being at, you’ll see happiness start to fill multiple areas of your life.
Any stories from the military, schooling or Broadview?
When I started at Broadview, I was studying to become a Chaplain in the Army. Little did I know that I would stumble upon my career as an educator. The military has instilled in me the idea that no one should be left behind. I take that into my classes, making sure that students know that I am there for them and my success is measured by theirs.
Why do you think education is so important?
Education is the key to a locked door. Behind that door is a possible future—a future that is bright and full of options.
Any final thoughts?
I see my current position as an extension of my teaching. The only difference is that I’ve moved out of the structured, four-walled classroom to the open classroom of the world that leads to a career and teaches the lessons of life.
